Primary Purpose
The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO), reporting directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer-Parkland Health Foundation, works collaboratively with senior leadership and the board of directors and will bring forth a forward-thinking vision and strategic leadership to propel the advancement initiatives of the Parkland Health Foundation. The CAO will delineate priorities, objectives, and the adoption of best practices for a comprehensive program to enhance and elevate Parkland's philanthropic culture.
Leading and overseeing all fundraising and advancement endeavors, the CAO will supervise communications, major and planned giving programs, annual fund efforts, grateful patient programming, corporate and foundation partnerships, prospect development and research, as well as donor engagement - all with the overarching aim of increasing philanthropic support for the Parkland Health Foundation.
Minimum Specifications
Education
- Must have a Bachelor's Degree.
Experience
- Must have a minimum of ten (10) years' experience in fundraising with at least four (4) years' experience in major gift work, managing a comprehensive (annual, restricted, planned, capital) fundraising program.
- Experience in creating and implementing short and long-term strategic fundraising plans preferred.

- Proven track record of achieving revenue goals, major gift solicitation, and donor cultivation; thorough understanding of a diversified funding base.
- Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate, and manage new donors, while effectively stewarding and re-engaging the Foundation's existing donor base.
- Comfort and expertise in leveraging metrics and data for reporting and goal setting.
- Demonstrated success in building productive, collaborative, long-term relationships with senior leaders, staff, boards, volunteers, and donors.
- Persuasive writing and verbal skills, including public speaking and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability and commitment to working with diverse groups of people.
- Proven track record of achieving revenue goals, major gift solicitation, and donor cultivation; thorough understanding of a diversified funding base.
- Comfort and familiarity with Foundation technology and donor database management software, ideally Raisers Edge NXT.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategies to maximize a comprehensive, best-in-class advancement program for the Parkland Health Foundation to increase philanthropic support and expand the foundation's visibility and importance among critical influencers and donors at all levels.
- Direct fundraising and advancement endeavors, including but not limited to, communications, major and planned giving programs, annual fund efforts, grateful patient programming, strategic events, corporate and foundation partnerships, prospect development and research, as well as donor engagement.
- Establish annual development goals, priorities, and metrics to meet growth expectations, and evaluate progress toward goals regularly by measuring results against projections.
- Lead by example by overseeing a personal portfolio of principal gift donors and potential donors.
- Ensure that fundraising strategies and tactics align with the fundraising priorities as established by the Foundation CEO, board of directors, and hospital leadership.
- Lead the implementation of donor-centric strategies across the Foundation that consistently challenge each aspect of operational processes to improve efficiency and increase donor satisfaction and engagement.
- Provide vision and leadership for the advancement team and in partnership with the Foundation CEO on the planning and execution of fundraising priorities while balancing expectations and resources required to achieve the agreed-upon goals.
- Create a culture of philanthropy among board members and staff to provide meaningful and valuable engagement with all Parkland stakeholders.
- Lead and coordinate outreach to donors to develop a coordinated approach to donor relations and stewardship, donor cultivation, acquisition, and qualification of donors.
- In conjunction with the Foundation CEO and external vendors/consultants, craft clear, compelling messages that describe the strengths and aspirations of Parkland Health Foundation, its mission, vision, and leadership.
- Build and manage an outstanding strategic communications program, ensuring that key brand and marketing messages are disseminated using a robust, cohesive, and engaging presence across a variety of vehicles.
- Lead the recruitment, training, and retention of high-performing members of the advancement team.
- Cultivate a culture of lifelong learning to develop prepared and accountable advancement professionals.
- Champion the work of the Board, Fund Development Committee, and other volunteer groups concerning.
Job Accountabilities
- Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes, work flows, etc. for the area and implements appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that support the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
- Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
- Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
- Develops and monitors annual budgets that ensure the department has the necessary funds to carry out the goals and objectives that have been established for the department.
- Develops, implements, monitors, and revises annual goals and objectives for the department that support the missions and objectives of Parkland.
- Selects, trains, schedules, motivates, supervises, and evaluates employees making recommendations for disciplinary actions up to and including termination, to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities. Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge.
