Primary Purpose 

 

Serves as a key administrator providing medical leadership for the clinical affairs of the hospital and specialty services.

 

Minimum Specifications

 

Education 

  • Must have successfully completed an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Medical Association (AMA) approved residency for appropriate specialty.
  • Master's degree in business administration or related discipline preferred.

 

Experience 

  • Must have ten (10) years of experience in the practice of medicine, preferably in a large hospital setting, to include five years of leadership experience at the senior management, department, division, or chief level.

 

Equivalent Education and/or Experience 

  • May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for the experience/education requirements.

 

Certification/Registration/Licensure 

  • Must be currently licensed for the practice of medicine in the State of Texas or must obtain license within one year of hire.
  • Must meet and maintain licensing and registration requirements as delineated by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Medical Staff Rules and Regulations, and Credentialing policies and procedures, if any.

  • Must be able to demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills and understanding of the interdepartmental roles of the various health professions.
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be familiar with personal computers, data compilation, and data analysis.

Responsibilities 

  • Shares with Nursing and Operations the responsibility for oversight, integration, and strategic planning for all hospital and specialty clinical activities as assigned.
  • Responsible for strategic planning for development of clinical care models for assigned divisions. Advances strategic partnerships in support of Parkland Health as an integrated health system.
  • Works collaboratively with Quality and Safety Office to implement, track, and improve hospital and specialty quality efforts and align them with health system safety priorities.
  • In collaboration with nursing and operations leadership designs and implements changes to health system clinical delivery processes to maximize efficiency, safety, engagement, and quality.
  • Develops and implements strategies to improve reliable and timely patient movement and physician communication between entities to promote seamless patient care from inpatient to outpatient settings.
  • Participates and/or leads all relevant committees (e.g., Quality, Chiefs, Utilization Review, NPC Oversight committees, process Improvement, etc.).
  • In collaboration with the UTSW and Parkland service chiefs and medical directors, set the standard for medical care delivery for Parkland Health.
  • Leads physician recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Drives physician-related initiatives, problem solving, and innovation.
  • Holds themself to the highest ethical and professional standards and models such behaviors to the workforce of Parkland Health

 

Job Accountabilities

  • Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes, work flows, etc. for the area and implements appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that support the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
  • Develops and monitors annual budgets that ensure the department has the necessary funds to carry out the goals and objectives that have been established for the department.
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and revises annual goals and objectives for the department that support the missions and objectives of Parkland.
  • Selects, trains, schedules, motivates, supervises, and evaluates employees making recommendations for disciplinary actions up to and including termination, to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities. Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge.
