PRIMARY PURPOSE

Responsible for analyzing medical practice revenue cycle operations within the clinic system by providing data flow advice and recommendations to management, training staff members, and supervising select employees. Works with clinic management with regard to departmental communication, process improvement, resource utilization, reimbursement, and improvement of the staff and patient experience.

 

MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS

Education

- Must have a High School diploma.

 

Experience

- Must have three (3) years of health care clinic operations, revenue cycle or patient account management experience to include - - One (1) year of leadership experience.

- Must have experience developing and delivering training.

 

Certification/Registration/Licensure

- None.

 

Skills or Special Abilities

- Must have effective organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.

- Must have a thorough knowledge of the revenue cycle compliance/auditing processes.

- Must be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of personal computers and other standard office equipment.

- Must have an expert knowledge of third-party payors and insurance verification procedures and understand managed area and insurance contractual arrangements.

- Must have a thorough knowledge of CPT and ICD9-CM coding guidelines.

- Must be able to understand and identify departmental workflow processes.

- Must be detail oriented, possess basic mathematical skills, and have sharp analytical skills to resolve financial issues as they relate to multiple groups including third party payors, physicians, patients and the system.

- Requires strong computer skills, specifically word processing and spreadsheet software.

- Must demonstrate a positive demeanor, good verbal and written communication skills, and be professional in both appearance and approach.

- Must be able to handle potentially stressful situations and multiple tasks simultaneously.

- Must be able to communicate effectively with government entities, insurance companies and Parkland staff.

- Must be able to troubleshoot and resolve problems within the guidelines of established policies and procedures. Strong analytical ability and problem-solving skills are critical.

- Must be able to successfully complete additional job-related training when offered.

 

Responsibilities

1. Selects, trains, schedules, motivates, supervises, and evaluates employees making recommendations for disciplinary actions up to and including termination, to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities. Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge.

2. Performs analysis of medical practice revenue cycle operations within the clinics in order to achieve, exceed, and improve financial/reimbursement outcomes. Reviews workflow and data flow analysis to identify problems in existing practices and the design of appropriate business models to ensure revenue cycle operations operate efficiently and effectively. Reviews, research, and investigates patient account and chart documentation in order to validate findings and/or correct issues.

3. Provides advice and recommendations to clinic and administrative management with regard to operations and procedures regarding medical practice revenue cycle practices. Provides support and serves as a team member to implement projects and directives geared toward increased operational efficiency and standardization. Provides follow-up measurement to ensure operations are achieving the expected results.

4. Responsible for developing, revising, and maintaining data analysis and production reports, using data from a variety of sources to assist with operational performance. Applies appropriate statistical and validation tools to ensure data accuracy.

5. Responsible for the design and development of instructional materials used in training sessions.

6. Responsible for delivering educational sessions for employee forums, clinic groups, and individual employees to deliver revenue cycle skills development, operational changes, specialized training, new hire orientation, etc. in order to promote and ensure optimal operations.

7. Organizes, plans, and develops tasks and timelines for monitoring service quality outcomes regarding operational performance audits. Develops and maintains audit tools as needed. Maintains database of outcome results, ensuring data accuracy. Provides reports to clinic and administrative management on a regular basis.

1. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.

2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.

3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
