Primary Purpose
Responsible for providing oversight and design of enterprise-wide quality analytics management and reporting. This position utilizes and manipulates a variety of data platforms, formats and applications; develops reports integrating numerous data sources; and constructs and maintains dashboards and dashboards elements. Leverages expertise to provide support to key functional areas of the Quality and Patient Safety (QPS) Division and throughout the enterprise. Collaborates between the QPS Division and other departments, service lines, clinicians and vendors. Continuously improves divisional data analytic and reporting strategies and capabilities. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner that consistent with our mission and values.
Minimum Specifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Health Informatics, Information Technology, Nursing, or clinically related field required from an accredited college or university.
- Master’s Degree in Health Informatics, Biostatistics, Business Administration, Public Health, or a related field preferred.
Experience
Two (2) years of experience in data management and analytics preferably in a healthcare setting; to include
- Experience in data warehouse, data mart, or other big data settings.
- Experience working with an integrated Electronic Medical Record (EMR) application.
- Experience working with Business Intelligence (BI) tools and/or languages, such as Crystal reporting, Web Intelligence reporting, and dashboards (or similar analytics application such as Tableau or Power BI)
- Experience using SQL (Structured Query Language) server-based SQL coding or Oracle PL-SQL (Procedural Language/Structured Query Language)
Requirements for PCHP:
- Experience working with Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) and healthcare analytics required.
Equivalent Education and/or Experience
- An equivalent combination of education/experience in lieu of specific experience and/or experience may be considered.
Certification/Registration/Licensure
- Prefer certification in one or more of the following:
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).
- Certification in SQL database: Microsoft Certified Solutions Engineer (MCSE), Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), or SAP HANA Data Modeling.
- Clinical application-oriented reporting certification (i.e. Epic Cogito or Clarity, SAP Business Objects).
Requirements for PCHP:
- Python certification required upon hire or date of entry into position.
Skills or Special Abilities
- Must understand SQL (Structured Query Language) / Oracle relational and multi-dimensional database structures, schemas, stored procedures, views, and queries.
- Must have exposure to reporting tools, database services (SAP HANA, SSIS, Apache Nifi), or data modeling, warehouse and virtual universe design.
- Must have strong analytic and computer skills.
- Must be able to demonstrate critical thinking skills, with regard to system issues.
- Must be able to accept verbal and/or written problems or direction from senior staff and to accomplish projects and tasks.
- Must have a high level of attention to detail, have the ability to manage multiple projects at once, and be able to demonstrate excellent analytical, organization, and prioritization skills.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to interact effectively with customers, team members, and IT management.
- Must be a quick learner. Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to work within an interdisciplinary team model.
- Must have a working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, VISIO, SharePoint) software, SQL, and Web Intelligence (or similar report development tool)
- Must have a working knowledge of Database Management Systems (DBMS) and clinical applications.
- Must be willing to serve as a resource and mentor for less experienced colleagues in similar roles.
Responsibilities
- Meets customers’ quality and safety analytic needs by designing, testing, and implementing high-value reporting solutions using industry standard reporting tools.
- Supports interdisciplinary teams in assessing and quantifying quality and safety opportunities. Develops analytic solutions to drive quality improvement.
- Uses the latest Business Intelligence development tools, methods, and technologies to implement high performance, analytic solutions.
- Maintains and utilizes clinical databases and reporting applications necessary for the department to carry out its analytics and reporting functions, including but not limited to Epic, Vizient, National Health Safety Network (NHSN), Safety Center, SharePoint, National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP), Web Intelligence, Digital Boardroom, HANA, SQL, and R.
- Maintains deployed analytic resources, including version control, troubleshooting, content modifications, and access/distribution list updates.
- Establishes and maintains positive, productive working relationships with campus-wide representatives in working toward the clinical quality, safety, and information technology goals of Parkland.
- Collaborates with application vendors and technical support staff on technical issues to ensure appropriate systems components are functioning effectively and optimize data processes.
- Develops and maintains reference materials, procedure manuals, and data dictionaries for the department.
- Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field of Healthcare Quality and Safety Analytics by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, and meeting with other Healthcare Quality and Safety Analytics professionals to ensure the latest methodologies are available and appropriately used at Parkland. Accepts direction from more senior colleagues and supervisors and works to improve technical and professional skills through contact and interaction with other industry professionals. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
- Develops, implements, and monitors annual goals, objectives, and policies related to clinical quality data in order to ensure data integrity and accuracy and timeliness of reporting.
