Primary Purpose

Monitors, inspects, repairs, installs and performs preventive maintenance functions independently and with minimal guidance for communication, control, and electrical distribution systems in Parkland, while adhering to safety codes and regulations to ensure that all electrical systems are operating safely and at optimum performance levels.

 

MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS

 

Education:

  • None

 

Experience:

  • Must have three years of experience in electrical repair and maintenance to include one year of electrician experience in a construction setting.

 

Equivalent Education and/or Experience:

  • None

 

Certification/Registration/Licensure:

  • Must have a valid Texas Drivers License (Class C)
  • Must complete a minimum of 3.0 hours of continuing education units annually in the National Electrical Code (NPPA-70) standards.

 

Skills or Special Abilities:

  • Must be able to demonstrate skill in the use of job related tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of, high voltage safety practices.
  • Must be able to train semi-skilled employees and provide advice and assistance in problem solutions.
  • Must be able to read and explain schematics and determine the wire size required for various electrical loads.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with Parkland personnel.
  • Must be physically able to lift heavy loads, walk, stand for extended periods, and climb ladders.

 

Responsibilities:

1. Inspects, and performs standard to intermediate repair of electrical equipment and electrical distribution systems, low and high voltage up to 480 volts throughout Parkland to ensure that all systems are safe and operational.

2. Adheres to established safety regulations and guidelines to ensure that repairs are carried out in an effective and safe manner.

3. Monitors and performs preventive maintenance functions for control systems, electrical distribution systems, and equipment throughout Parkland to ensure that the number and frequency of system failures is kept at a minimum.

4. Monitors equipment performance and performs periodic inspections of electrical equipment and electrical distribution systems, low and high voltage up to 480 volts to ensure that systems are operating safely and at maximum efficiency levels.

5. Trains new and entry level electricians and utility workers as needed to ensure that staff members are capable of performing assigned job functions.

6. Assists and communicates with mechanical maintenance crews, Parkland staff and others by working on electrical control problems to support department guidelines for ensuring safety in modification procedures used on electrical systems throughout the Parkland.

7. Coordinates, repairs requests with electrical problems according to established policies and procedures to provide Parkland departments with prompt and efficient maintenance service.

8. Performs installations of electrical systems and equipment, while adhering to safety codes and regulations to ensure that new installations operate effectively.

9. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals and mission of the Parkland.

10. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements and trends in the field of electrical engineering by attending seminars or workshops, and reading professional journals and integrates this knowledge as appropriate into the job.

11. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the Electrician area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.
