PRIMARY PURPOSE

Responsible for providing delivery of pulmonary function testing ensuring optimal service and quality of care to patients within established standards and practices.

 

MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS

Education:

-Must be a graduate of a Respiratory Care Program from an accredited American Medical Association (AMA) program.

-Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care preferred.

 

Experience:

-Must have (2) two plus years pulmonary diagnostic lab experience to include all aspects of pulmonary function, desaturation, and arterial blood gas testing.

 

Equivalent Education and/or Experience:

-May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for both the education and the experience requirements.

 

Certification/Registration/Licensure:

-Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) through the National Board for Respiratory Care, Inc. (NBRC) or a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) through NBRC and obtain RRT within one year of graduation from accredited AMA program.

-Must have a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license from either the Texas Department of State Health Services OR Texas Medical Board.

-Must have a current Healthcare Provider CPR course completion card prior to hire and/or placement in job from one of the following: o American Heart Association o American Red Cross Rescuer o Military Training Network.

-Must have the Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist Certification (CPFT) within 1 year from date of hire into the position.

 

Skills or Special Abilities:

-Must be proficient in the use of all equipment required for the delivery of basic Respiratory Care bedside therapeutic and diagnostic services.

-Must be able to serve as a preceptor to new orientees, students, and interns to the pulmonary function lab.

-Must be able to document activities accurately with departmental electronic charting system.

-Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.

-Must maintain required departmental competencies.
