Primary Purpose


Develop and manage multiple complex research data projects in support of Parkland’s institutional objectives: (1) Design and implement technical solutions that facilitate efficient, reliable and compliant research data collection, storage, analysis and reporting. (2) Design and implement transparent supporting processes and procedures. (3) Recruit and lead additional analysts as needed and within budget.


Minimum Specifications


Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Health Systems Research, or a related field.
  • Prefer Master's degree

Experience

  • Must have at least two years of experience supporting acute care, ambulatory care, or inpatient operations in an Epic environment to include the following activities:
  • Capturing data request/reporting requirements from clinical end users,
  • Complex reporting using multiple data sources and reporting tools including Clarity and Crystal reporting
  • Previous experience working with integrated electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Previous coding experience using SQL, PL SQL or SAP, HANA, R
  • Knowledge of front-end Epic applications strongly preferred.

Equivalent Education and/or Experience

  • May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for both the education and the experience requirements.

 

Certification/Registration/Licensure

  • Epic Clarity data model certifications preferred.

Skills or Special Abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience working efficiently, consistently producing high-quality documentation and work product, and within compliance at all times.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing complex tasks/systems/problems, identifying possible solutions, identifying stakeholders and seeking feedback, then designing, implementing and evaluating agreed-upon solution.
  • Demonstrated expertise collecting, cleaning, organizing and processing complex data from Clarity and other sources.
  • Must have strong clinical and business knowledge to facilitate efficient communication with clinical stakeholders to ensure capture of high-quality requirements, identification of best data sources and evaluation of work product.
  • Must have excellent people skills (thoughtful, empathetic and articulate).
  • Must have excellent English language verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have a working knowledge of Windows-based systems, as well as MS Office Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook software. Advanced skills in Excel preferred.
  • Self-directed quick learner.


Responsibilities:

  1. Lead initial requirement gathering and subsequent refinement ensuring all necessary clinical, technical, regulatory and operational stakeholders are involved as appropriate. Ensure high-quality documentation is maintained throughout life of project, and as appropriate provide regular updates to interested stakeholders. Based on demand and resource availability, recruit, lead and manage additional analysts. Ensure quality and compliance produced by all team members.
  2. Define project deliverables and estimate time to completion. Predict and eliminate risks to deliverables and timeline. Provide regular updates to internal stakeholders and clinical researchers regarding risks and issues, and when necessary propose revisions to deliverables or timelines.
  3. Minimize technical risks and issues through creative problem solving. Lead development and testing of potential solutions to mitigate risks or resolve issues in close collaboration with clinical researchers and technical experts.
  4. Conduct retrospective reviews leading to the development or revision of processes and procedures maximizing efficiency, reliability and transparency. As appropriate, obtain stakeholder support or approval for proposed changes. Meet regularly with clinical researchers to obtain feedback and address any concerns or suggestions.
  5. Ensure consistent high-quality work products.
  6. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  7. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field of research data by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  8. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the assigned area/department/division. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding. Ensure persistent compliance with Parkland polices and all applicable local, state and federal regulations.

Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
