PRIMARY PURPOSE: Analyzes and designs therapeutic recreation treatment plans based on patient problems and goals. Determines if planned treatment is effective and progresses patient in timely fashion. Records patient¿s progress in concise, accurate, and timely manner.

 

MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS:

 

 Education:

  •  Must have a degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited program.

 

Experience:

  •   None

 

 Equivalent Education and/or Experience:

  •  None

 

Certification/Registration/Licensure:

  • Must have current certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.
  • Must have a current Healthcare Provider CPR course completion card prior to hire and/or placement in job from one of the following:
  • American Heart Association 
  • American Red Cross Rescuer 
  • Military Training Network. 

 

Responsibilities:

1. Has general patient care skills. Demonstrates knowledge of therapeutic principles and practices good clinical judgement and does not compromise patients or another¿s safety, while at same time maximizes patients treatment potential. 

2. Completes therapeutic recreation evaluations. Reviews information from all sources (history, physical, overt and subjective complaints, etc.). Utilizes proper testing and measurement procedures based on information gathered in evaluation. Identifies and records problem areas on evaluation.

3. Organizes patient treatment time and unscheduled time efficiently.

4. Responds to all reasonable requests in an appropriate and timely manner and communicates in a concise and positive way.

5. Assists in on-job training and education of Therapy Technicians, Students and Nursing Staff.

 

Job Accountabilities:

 1. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.

2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.

3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
