Primary Purpose


Responsible for planning and coordinating grant development for Parkland (PHHS). Research funding opportunities, facilitate and assist with application and proposal development, monitor and track timely grant submissions, develop and prepare metrics, and assist with grant reporting.  

 

Minimum Specifications
 

Education

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in business or related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
     

Experience

  • Must have two (2) years’ experience in writing grants, planning, or coordinating grant initiatives; including experience in preparing grant submissions.

  • Must be familiar with medical/social health care delivery and research design.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with physicians, hospital personnel, and community collaborators, both orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of personal computer operations including word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Must be familiar with budgeting and data management.
  • Must be able to make presentations and interface with PHHS senior management, program managers, government agencies and civic groups.
  • Must be a project-oriented individual.
  • Must have organizational and communication skills, including the ability to facilitate small group meetings.
     

Responsibilities

  1. Plans, coordinates, and conducts interdepartmental pre-award grant development meetings. Plans, writes, budgets, and submits grant proposals for health and social service programs to federal, state, and local governments, foundations and donors within established time frames and due dates. Reviews all components of the PHHS application for compliance with grant guidance. Makes recommendations to senior management and/or other program managers/coordinators.
  2. Serves as a resource person to external and internal organizations/personnel of PHHS for grant planning, writing, application and locating possible funding sources, while providing optimal customer service to internal and external customers. Acts as liaison between the hospital and grantors and maintains a positive working relationship to promote mutual and effective cooperative efforts. Makes recommendations to senior management and program managers/coordinators concerning funding opportunities.
  3. Plans, coordinates, and conducts interdepartmental post award grant debriefing with department staff and other key personnel to ensure the conditions of the grant award are met. Facilitates and monitors programmatic and fiscal compliance with grant reporting and other provisions.
  4. Identifies and analyzes the grant management process, application, reporting and program evaluation processes, etc. and makes or recommends changes to improve customer service, effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that support the overall goals of the department, PHHS, and the Parkland Foundation.
  5. Prepares and submits special reports. Prepares special correspondence, makes applications for national recognition and awards for the hospital and PHHS that support the missions, goals, and objective of PHHS.

Job Accountabilities

  1. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
