Primary Purpose
Manages and coordinates the IT audit activities of Parkland or subsidiaries. Schedules audits/reviews, establishes and monitors audit time budgets, reviews work papers, and evaluates audit results to ensure timely and thorough audits of departments.
Minimum Specifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business or computer science related discipline required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
Experience
- Eight (8) years of combined healthcare auditing or information systems with at least three (3) years of experience in an audit environment.
- Data analytics experience including experience with tools such as SQL, Python, R, SAS, Tableau, Power BI, or ACL.
- Experience with healthcare compliance standards, billing & coding practices, risk management, and regulatory frameworks.
Equivalent Education and/or Experience
- Master's degree in lieu of two (2) years of relevant experience.
Certification/Registration/Licensure
- Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or EPIC Clarity Reporting certified required.

Responsibilities
Operations
- Monitors Audit schedules and data, reviews Audit work papers and reports, and prepares Auditor evaluations to ensure that the audit focus is maintained and that audits are performed in a timely and thorough manner.
- Performs audits of application, network, storage, database and server infrastructure architecture and design to ensure appropriate security according to industry standards and adherence to regulatory requirements in all aspects of design and implementation.
- Participates on new software system implementations to ensure that adequate system controls are present, and the system is configured per management specifications.
- Performs research, analyzes, and organizes qualitative and quantitative financial, operational, and clinical data from multiple sources, and synthesize results into meaningful fact-based analyses, reports and models.
- Using the appropriate programming language and tool, extracts data from source systems for use in audits and/or monitoring and develops automated processes for artificial intelligence or continuous monitoring efforts.
- Meets with the audited function periodically throughout the audit to discuss audit plans, audit findings, and to develop mutually agreed-upon recommendations. Maintains a positive working relationship with all hospital functions to ensure the fulfillment of auditing responsibilities.
- Prepares a clear, concise audit report detailing the findings and recommendations and
- incorporates the responses from the function which details the specific steps they plan to take to implement agreed upon recommendations and time frames. Pro-actively performs follow-up audits of areas previously audited to ascertain that recommendations and time schedules are being followed from the initial audit.
Regulatory
- Develop processes to maintain compliance with regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies. Ensures operations are carried out in compliance with these regulations.
- Works collaboratively with leadership and/or Compliance to investigate and respond to matters of concern or alleged violations taking corrective action as necessary.
- Provides timely and accurate responses to requests for information from regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies.
- Fiscal Management and Operating Budget
- Operationally responsible for the financial performance of assigned area(s).
- Promote activities to achieve operational efficiency.
- Manage the approved budget through frequent and regular monitoring. Implement written action plans to address variances adjusting strategies as necessary to meet budgetary targets.
- Manage staffing levels within established targets.
Talent Management

- Ensure employee engagement survey participation rates and results meet established targets.
- Mandatory requirements are completed timely by employees.
- Required licensure, certification, and/or registry are current and in good standing for all employees.
- Employee performance is monitored and managed. Consult with the Office of Talent Management regarding employee performance concerns and disciplinary action.

Job Accountabilities
- Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes, workflows, etc. for the area and implements appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that support the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
- Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
- Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
- Develops and monitors annual budgets that ensure the department has the necessary funds to carry out the goals and objectives that have been established for the department.
- Develops, implements, monitors, and revises annual goals and objectives for the department that support the missions and objectives of Parkland.
- Selects, trains, schedules, motivates, supervises, and evaluates employees making recommendations for disciplinary actions up to and including termination, to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities. Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge.
