Primary Purpose
Manages the development, interpretation and administration of financial plans, financial policies, and accounting practices. Supervises/coordinates the maintenance of fiscal records, budgets, preparation, presentation, and analysis of financial reports to ensure fiscally sound and effective operations, profitable operating results, and optimum customer service and satisfaction.
Minimum Specifications
Education
- Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field.
- Master’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting preferred.
Experience
- Must have a minimum of seven (7) years progressive experience in financial accounting with three (3) years’ experience in not-for-profit organization.
- Must have four (4) years of management experience.
Equivalent Education and/or Experience
- May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for both the education and the experience requirements.
Certification/Registration/Licensure
- Certified Public Accountant preferred.
Skills or Special Abilities
- Must demonstrate excellent management, administrative and supervisory skills.
- Must be able to demonstrate superior oral and written communication skills, and ability to relate effectively with diverse group of internal and external customers.
- Must be able to demonstrate superior knowledge and expertise in financial, GAAP and FASB accounting principles and practices and internal controls.
- Must have excellent analytical skills and proficiency in accounting software, as well as spreadsheet, word processing, and PowerPoint skills.
- Must be able to work independently.
Responsibilities
- Reviews general ledger transactions and journal entries to ensure compliance with FASB (Financial Accounting Standards Board), GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and integrity and accuracy of general ledger transactions and financial reports.
- Prepares complete monthly financial statements, provides assistance with narratives for the Parkland Foundation and ensures completion of supporting variance analysis.
- Develops and coordinates the annual fiscal budget for Parkland Foundation in coordination with Parkland’s annual budget process.
- Coordinates and ensures timely and proper completion of the annual external and internal audits including all supporting schedules and narratives.
- Supervises the maintenance of project and endowment transactions to ensure funds are properly stewarded. Works with other areas as needed to repurpose funds whose intents can no longer be fulfilled.
- Coordinates with Parkland Treasury Department to request cash infusions to sustain the Foundation’s positive operating cash flow.
- Reviews and approves various reconciliations prepared by accounting staff to ensure timely resolution of differences. Identifies patterns and issues and works proactively to implement solutions.
- Participates in information exchanges with Foundation leadership and other Parkland staff that support the standards, missions, goals and objectives of the department and Parkland.
- Develops and monitors annual budgets that ensure the department has the necessary funds to carry out the goals and objectives that have been established for the department.
- Develops, implements, monitors, and revises annual goals and objectives for the department that support the missions and objectives of Parkland.
- Selects, trains, schedules, motivates, supervises, and evaluates employees making recommendations for disciplinary actions up to and including termination, to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities. Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Accountabilities
- Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes, workflows, etc. for the area and implements appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that support the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
- Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
- Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
