Primary Purpose

Coordinates the inspection, repair, adjustment and maintenance of various fire protection, life safety and building systems and equipment to help ensure a safe physical environment for Parkland patients, staff, volunteers and visitors.

 

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

 

Experience:

  • Must have three years of general experience related to the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of installed mechanical systems and equipment; such as building maintenance.

 

Equivalent Education and/or Experience:

  • May have an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in lieu of specific education and/or experience as stated above.

 

Certification/Registration/Licensure:

  • Must have a valid Texas Driver License (Class C).

Skills or Special Abilities:

  • Must have a good working knowledge of typical mechanical systems such as HVAC systems, electrical systems and piped utilities.
  • Must be capable of using a broad spectrum of hand tools, power tools and some electronic test equipment such as multi-meter, battery analyzer, decibel meter, and communication devices
  • Must be able to read, write, and verbally communicate with supervisor and Parkland employees.
  • Must be familiar with typical office computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook or equivalent.
  • Must be familiar with typical office equipment such as printers, scanners and fax machines.
  • Must be physically able to lift heavy loads, walk, stand for extended periods, and climb ladders.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Performs periodic functional tests of fire protection systems components to ensure that all systems are intact and functioning properly.
  2. Conducts the preventive or corrective maintenance on multiple types of fire protection and life safety equipment and systems to ensure that all systems are maintained and are operational.
  3. Documents work conducted on all fire protection and life safety systems. Helps to maintain associated records to show compliance with appropriate regulatory agencies.
  4. Cleans, tests and repairs various components of building systems to ensure they function properly.
  5. Assists Parkland staff to understand the requirements for use and maintenance of fire and life safety systems and equipment.
  6. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer, internal and external, satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals and missions of Parkland in order to improve overall departmental and area performance and effectiveness.
  7. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the fire and life safety systems at Parkland facilities. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal/state/private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.
  8. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field of fire protection and life safety by attending seminars and workshops, and reading professional journals. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
