Primary Purpose

Shared oversight and accountability for the management and execution of the Enterprise-Wide Respiratory Protection Program (RPP). Responsible for providing total care for assigned patients, under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, in order to ensure quality care within but not limited to COPC, EHC, Correctional Health, etc.

 

Minimum Specifications

Education

- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of vocational nursing and/or licensed by the Texas Board of Nursing as a Licensed Vocational Nurse; or have a valid Compact LVN License.

- Individuals who perform non-waived POCT must have a high school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or a college degree. - Foreign education must be evaluated for equivalence to United States education standards by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) or Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment - (CLIA) or COLA authorized credentialing agency. - A copy of the high school diploma, GED, college degree/transcript or foreign education equivalence report will be required at time of hire or placement in job

 

Experience

- Must have two years of nursing experience, preferably in occupational/employee health. Data management experience, is required.

- ReadySet EHR experience, preferred.

 

Certification/Registration/Licensure

- Must have current, valid LVN license or temporary LVN license from the Texas Board of Nursing; or, valid Compact LVN license.

- Must have current healthcare provider CPR course completion card from one of the following:

  • American Heart Association
  • American Red Cross
  • Military Training Network.

- May be required to obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification during initial orientation.

- Must be proficient in navigating and documenting in electronic health records.

 

Responsibilities

1. Conduct a hazard assessment and select the appropriate level of respiratory protection for each task or job title with exposure.

2. Routinely evaluate the effectiveness of the respiratory protection program, with employee input, and make any necessary changes to the program.

3. Provide or arrange for annual training in the use and limitations of respirators. Provide or arrange for annual respirator fit testing. Maintain records of respirator training, medical clearance, and fit testing.

4. Performs bloodwork, Tuberculosis screening, and vaccinations to provide Parkland employees with the services needed to support health objectives and requirements.

5. Counsels employees on work related illnesses and injuries, issues such as substance abuse, psychosocial needs, wellness/health promotion concerns and other health or work-related concerns. Makes referrals to the employee assistance program and/or other community resources and coordinates follow-up as applicable.

6. Collects, compiles, reports, maintains and distributes health data to ensure Parkland compliance with regulatory requirements, and provide related entities with the information needed to evaluate and respond to employee health issues.

7. Participates in health-related programs and fairs for Parkland employees to promote health and wellness, injury/illness prevention, and ensure Parkland staff are kept informed about vaccination and exposure protocols.

8. Screens and prioritizes patients with regard to medical problems, ensuring that appropriate treatment is delivered in a timely manner per physician orders and established policies and procedures. Assists with inpatient/clinic coordination and flow of patients to include patient treatments as directed by physician and nursing/medical staff, and/or discharge activities.

9. Identifies and meets educational needs of patients and families by communicating and distributing appropriate information as needed. Reinforces patient/family education teaching that was initiated by RN or NP. May participate in community outreach activities (such as health fairs, community collaborations or outreach clinics) as assigned.

10. Assists with precepting (training, motivating, and supervising) new employees and students as directed by supervisor.

11. Ensures that appropriate supplies are available for individual patient care by gathering all necessary items together in advance. May assist with ordering and stocking supplies as needed. Assists in the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies to ensure the effective operation of the department.

12. Responsible for cleaning and sterilizing both patient areas and medical instruments to ensure an appropriate healthcare environment.

13. Sets up patient appointments and referrals for further testing and follow-up care as needed. Assists in transporting patients as needed.
