Primary Purpose:

Provides expertise to the HIM division and all Parkland affiliates as it relates to data analysis, database creation and reporting functions in order to assist management in the successful analysis and achievement of goals.

 

Minimum Specifications:

Education:

- Must have a Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Information Technology, Mathematics, Business Administration, or a related field.


Experience:

-Must have two (2) years relational database and analytics reporting experience

-Must have experience working with Epic Clarity Data Models

-Prefer HIM experience or Information Technology experience

-Prefer experience working with the Epic software application

-Prefer two years experience in a health related environment such as acute care, ambulatory care, or an inpatient setting

 

Equivalent Education and/or Experience:

-May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for both the education and the experience requirements.

 

Certification/Registration/Licensure:

- None

 

Skills or Special Abilities:

- Must be able to demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of statistical analysis, data base design and analysis, and management/clinical information systems

- Must be able to demonstrate ability to be self-directed and learn quickly with strong attention to detail.

- Must be able to demonstrate analytical skills: analyze complex tasks/systems/problems, determine possible solutions, and design, implement and evaluate most effective solution

- Must have the ability to prepare detailed documents, reports, and charts

- Must understand healthcare terminology, business processes, and user issues associated with hospital/clinic practice

- Must have strong clinical and business knowledge to understand the data sources and resulting quality and integrity of the electronic medical record

- Must be able to work collaboratively with team members, operational managers, colleagues, clinical providers (physicians, nurses, etc.) and stakeholders to analyze problems and propose recommended solutions that meet both business and technical needs

- Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication and presentation skills

- Must have a working knowledge of pc systems, including knowledge of MS Office Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook and Visio software. Advanced skills in Excel and Access preferred

- Must have ability to create SQL queries to extract, manipulate, and/or calculate information to fulfill data and reporting requirements

- Prefer a working knowledge of Crystal Reports and SharePoint list creation and SAP BI Reporting and Data Visualization tools.

 

Responsibilities:

1. Participates in the analysis and planning for data base requirements, normalizing data, and designing data models in developing and maintaining relational data bases. Monitors data bases for performance and growth to ensure efficiency, productivity, security and optimal customer satisfaction.

2. Consults with applications and technical support staff on data base issues to ensure appropriate systems components are functioning effectively.

3. Administers a variety of data base systems including Clarity, Microsoft SQL Server, and other Database Management Systems (DBMS). Maintains, develops and enforces data base administration and user standards and procedures. Audits for integrity and efficiency, modifies and amends data in systems using SQL commands, hand-editing, and bulk import.

4. Initiates technical designs, reports, documentation, and other materials for internal and external customers. Creates and maintains reports and automates report distribution of high-level reporting systems using products such as Crystal Reports and Business Objects. Researches and recommend new reporting and online technology.

5. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.

6. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field of HIM Data Integrity by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, and actively participating in professional organizations. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.

7. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the HIM Data Integrity area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.

Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
