Primary Purpose

The Communications Program Manager plans and executes strategic, integrated communications for the purpose of positioning Parkland Health Foundation as the philanthropy of choice and ensuring that appropriate fundraising tools with consistent messaging are readily available to support achievement of annual and long-term fundraising goals.

 

Minimum Specifications

 

Education

  • Must have Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or a related field.

 

Experience

  • Must have six (6) years of progressive experience in communication, journalism, marketing or a related field.
  • Must have experience in directing and overseeing content development, and the planning and production of publications, collateral materials and other communications vehicles, including website and social media management.
  • Must have experience in brand management.
  • Must have previous experience managing budgets.
  • Prefer minimum three years of fundraising communications experience.

 

Equivalent Education and/or Experience

  • May have an equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of specific education and/or experience as stated above.

 

Skills or Special Abilities

  • Must have exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
  • Must have substantial knowledge of principles, practices, techniques, and psychology for strategic marketing, internal and external communications, public and media relations.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Oversees all internal and external public relations messaging for the Parkland Health Foundation. Reviews all media traffic (including email, phone calls, web copy for website, etc.) to determine if the message is appropriate and accurate.
  2. Leads the editorial planning, writing, and production of Parkland Health Foundation communication materials. Key activities include working collaboratively to identify and write compelling stories that demonstrate donor impact, highlight opportunities for support, advance fundraising strategies, and elevate Parkland Health Foundation and Parkland Health’s brand across the community.
  3. Ensures content, collateral, and talking points align with Parkland Health Foundation and Parkland Health (system) strategies and key messaging, including content and talking points for Foundation events, philanthropic campaigns, donor stewardship, and other organizational priorities.
  4. Translates complex medical and scientific concepts into meaningful narratives that create compelling cases for philanthropic support—inspiring new and continued giving to the Foundation.
  5. Leads digital strategy development and execution including web, email, and social media.
  6. Serves as quality control, proofreader, and editor on print materials and websites.
  7. Overseas planning and execution of event messaging and collateral, including invitation creation and mailing, communications needs.
  8. Works collaboratively with annual giving leadership to provide creative and content input for direct response strategy.
  9. Provides communications needs to ensure implementation of the donor journey/stewardship matrix such as updating acknowledgment letters and creating stewardship tools including, but not limited to, impact reports/videos and special collateral/stationery.
  10. Oversees day-to-day requests such as writing press releases, creating presentations, developing and ordering stock products, editing proposals, creating event invitations, and writing solicitation letters.

  1. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
