Primary Purpose
Installs, tests, repairs and performs maintenance functions for data/communication cable management systems in Parkland while adhering to safety codes and regulations to ensure that all networking cabling systems are installed at optimum performance levels.

Experience:
- Must have three (3) years experience installing and testing data/communication cables to include one (1) year of experience in fiber optic installation.

Skills or Special Abilities:
- Ability to demonstrate skill in the use of job-related tools and testing equipment.
- Ability to train employees and provide advice and assistance in problem solutions.
- Ability to read and explain schematics.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Parkland personnel.
- Ability to test, repair and certify fiber and copper cabling
- Must be physically able to lift heavy loads, walk, stand for extended periods, and climb ladders.
Responsibilities:
1. Install new data and communication cable. Installation of conduits, cable, boxes, patch panels, wall jacks and other cable management equipment. Ensure adherence to safety codes and regulations so that new installations operate effectively and according to Parkland standards. Includes intrusion / burglary systems, card access control systems, installation of CCTV systems, fiber-optics and copper (termination and splicing), and layout configuration.
2. Adheres to established safety regulations and guidelines to ensure that installation and repairs are carried out in an effective, safe and compliant manner.
3. Assists new and entry level technicians and utility workers, as needed, to ensure that staff members are capable of performing assigned job functions.
4. Assists and communicates with maintenance crews, Parkland staff and others by working on problems to support departmental guidelines for ensuring safety in modification procedures used on data and electrical systems throughout Parkland.
5. Responds to basic repair requests from Parkland staff by solving cabling problems according to established policies and procedures to provide Parkland departments with prompt and efficient maintenance services.
6. Manage job-related work order/request database, including time, materials, and other required documentation.
7. Terminate, test and certify fiber-optics and low voltage cabling.
