Primary Purpose

Prepares baked goods and deserts, and prepares food items for special catered requests for Parkland

Education

None

 

Experience

Must have three years of institutional baking experience in a hospital, restaurant, school, bake shop, military facility or comparable institution.

 

Certification/Registration/Licensure:

Must have a certificate of completion of a food handler training course accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and/or the Texas Department of State Health Services (TXDSHS) or must obtain one within sixty (60) days of placement in the role.

 

Skills or Special Abilities

Must be able to read, write, and follow instructions and recipes.

Must be able to communicate effectively with departmental staff.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Prepares baked goods, desserts, and special catered event items for PHHS in a manner to assure optimal satisfaction for internal and external customers.
  2. Assures operation of all bakery equipment, follows procedures indicated in recipes, follows sanitation guidelines, follows safe food handling techniques and work safety policies to assure the department and PHHS are in compliance.
  3. Identifies and analyzes, recipes, and work processes, and monitors baking process, cuts and portions, and finished baked goods for quality distribution to internal and external customers of PHHS. Implements changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, efficiency that support the overall goals of the Hospital and PHHS.
  4. Consults with supervisor concerning special items and requests, and the evaluation of new recipes to assure quality purchases and preparation for PHHS.
  5. Maintains cross training with other food preparation areas and serves as relief person for emergency backup to kitchen preparation and production staff to assure satisfactory levels of food preparation and production are maintained.

 

Job Accountabilities

  1. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
