Primary Purpose

Collaborate to develop and modify analytics and data deliverables for the organization in order to provide Parkland with the appropriate tools and knowledge to optimize effective evidence-based decision making. Gains the knowledge and skills to produce data assets that provide timely and accurate information for the organization by working with a team of various business intelligence specialists to craft consumable information. Possesses strong understanding of relational databases and data normalization. Reads and writes SQL queries. Designs reports in either a GUI format (Dashboards and/or reports) or in a database system language (SQL, Stored Procedures, etc.) with minimal supervision.

Provides excellent communication and people skills and a wiliness to work in a team environment. Often speaking with physicians and clinicians and spend time interpreting business requirements as provided but may at times need to gather those asset requirements directly. Looks for challenges, constantly works towards improving their skill levels, and takes ownership for work assigned to them.

 

Minimum Specifications

 

This BI Developer III position is part of the Compliance and Ethics Department supporting the data and auditing deliverables of Parkland’s Compliance and Ethics Program. 

 

Education

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.

 

Experience

  • Three (3) years’ experience working with Business Intelligence (BI) tools, including developing crystal reporting, WEBi reporting and dashboards technologies and/or
  • Three (3) years’ experience using SQL (Structured Query Language) server-based SQL coding or Oracle PL-SQL (Procedural Language/Structured Query Language) experience or SAP HANA.
  • 4+ years’ experience working with IT healthcare database support.
  • 4+ years’ experience within a clinical unit of a healthcare organization.
  • 4+ years’ experience working with an integrated Electronic Medical Record (EMR) application, within a healthcare organization.

 

Equivalent Education and/or Experience

  • May have an equivalent combination of education and/or experience from the list above in lieu of specific education and/or experience as explicitly stated above.

 

Certification/Registration/Licensure

  • Prefer current SQL database certification upon hire: Microsoft Certified Solutions Engineer (MCSE), Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), or SAP HANA Data Modeling.
  • Prefer clinical application-oriented reporting certification (i.e., Epic Cogito or Clarity, SAP Business Objects).

 

Skills or Special Abilities

  • Must understand SQL (Structured Query Language) / Oracle relational and multi-dimensional database structures, schemas, stored procedures, views, and queries.
  • Must have exposure to reporting tools, database services (SAP HANA, SSIS, Apache Nifi), or data modeling, warehouse, and virtual universe design.
  • Must have strong analytic and computer skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate critical thinking skills.
  • Must be able to accept verbal and/or written problems or direction from senior staff and to accomplish projects and tasks.

Responsibilities

  1. Meets customers’ analytic needs by designing, testing, and implementing high-value Business Intelligence solutions.
  2. Uses industry standard reporting tools to generate basic reports as requested. Uses the latest Business Intelligence development tools, methods, and technologies to implement high performance, analytic solutions.
  3. Facilitates communication and problem resolution with physicians & staff in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Collaborates with team members to learn business processes and capture requirements relative to proposed solutions.
  4. Documents each step of development to ensure adequate communication within the team and customers.
  5. Actively provides prompt responses to customer problems and inquiries. Makes the customer’s experience the first priority in all operations.
  6. Resolves ITSM incidents and requests independently within SLA timelines. Takes ownership and resolves incidents and requests with minimal dependence on other team members.
  7. Uses diplomacy to handle conflict with peers, without allowing personal feelings to influence or impact the outcome negatively. Respects, shares, and cooperates with fellow teammates and acts with Integrity.
  8. Follows all department procedures (Weekly Status Reports, Customer Delivery, Customer Communications, Request Creation, etc.).

  1. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
