Primary Purpose

Responsible for maintaining the information systems within the Data Management and Enterprise Reporting department in order to provide Parkland with secure, dependable, and accurate data. This includes data transfer, data integrity, and data storage responsibilities. Maintains and functions as an administrator of one of the major analytics systems at Parkland. Installs patches, upgrade the applications, and works with teams under supervisory direction to ensure proper backups of the system are in place. Responsible of being on-call for reporting systems used to facilitate Business Intelligence content delivery and data transportation between systems. Performs with an easy to work with attitude and willing to work with developers for report or universe deployments. Looks for challenges, constantly works towards improving their skill levels, and takes ownership for work assigned to them.

 

Minimum Specifications

 

Education

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience        

  • Must have 2 years’ experience in the following:
  • Maintaining Business Intelligence, Data Warehouse solutions, or ETL in a Run or Production support environment or
  • Troubleshooting ETL load related issues (SSIS or Data Solutions) or
  • Working on ETL development and maintenance experience in a Data Warehouse environment or
  • Experience in database or report portal tool administration.

Preferred:

  • Prefer 2 years’ experience within a healthcare organization.
  • Prefer 2 years’ experience in a systems engineering (hardware / software) capacity.
  • Prefer 2 years’ experience with an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) application such as Eclipsys, Epic, Clarity, or Epic within a healthcare organization.

 

Equivalent Education and/or Experience

  • May have an equivalent combination of education and/or experience from the list above in lieu of specific education and/or experience as explicitly stated above.

 

Certification/Registration/Licensure

  • Prefer related certification(s) in Epic and/or Clarity.

 

Skills or Special Abilities

  • Must have experience with ETL tool Build or Run activities or Business Objects Admin.
  • Must have exposure to Server or Application maintenance (patching, backups, scripting etc.) or have exposure to content production tools (writing reports or building virtual data environments)
  • Must have an expert level knowledge of commonly used programming concepts, practices, and procedures within the Information Technology field.
  • Must have strong analytic and computer skills in addition to an extensive knowledge of database management and data analysis.
  • Must be able to create written business requirements from customer requests interpreting and translating expectations into finished outputs matching customer specifications.
  • Must have experience with data modeling, warehouse design and virtual universe structures.
  • Must be able to demonstrate critical thinking skills, with regard to system issues.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of patient data and the use of this data in a healthcare environment, as applicable.
  • Must be able to accept verbal and/or written problems or direction from senior staff and to work independently to accomplish projects and tasks.
  • Must have a high level of attention to detail, have the ability to manage multiple projects at once, and be able to demonstrate excellent analytical, organization and prioritization skills.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to interact effectively with customers, team members and IT management.

Responsibilities

  1. Meets customers’ analytic needs by maintaining and supporting high-value Business Intelligence environments.
  2. Works with the DBA and storage teams to ensure proper backups are taken, test back-ups periodically, and ensure that the system can be restored in the time of a disaster.
  3. Works on-call schedule. Troubleshoots and triages issues with ETL and Business Intelligence cycles.
  4. Participates in BI Administrators cross-training for on-call coverage and provides feedback for on-call protocols regularly to ensure team maintains necessary expertise.
  5. Documents each step of system maintenance to ensure adequate communication within the team and customers.
  6. Actively provides prompt responses to customer problems and inquiries. Makes the customer’s experience the first priority in all operations. Collaborates with business partners and cross functional teams to learn business processes and capture requirements relative to proposed solutions.
  7. Resolves ITSM incidents and requests independently within SLA timelines. Take ownership and resolve complicated/code intensive incidents and requests.
  8. Uses diplomacy to handle conflict with peers, without allowing personal feelings to influence or impact the outcome negatively. Respects, shares, and cooperates with fellow teammates and acts with Integrity.
  9. Follows all department procedures (Weekly Status Reports, Customer Delivery, Customer Communications, Request Creation, etc.)
  10. Has a healthy work ethic, by taking ownership for work assigned, finding solutions, and overcoming obstacles.   1. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
