Primary Purpose

Performs specialized financial, accounting or costs reports, reviews advanced accounting documents and provides technical assistance to Parkland departments to ensure accurate, updated budget records and financial statements.

 

Minimum Specifications

 

Education

  • Must have graduated from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance, including 18 hours of Accounting courses.

 

Experience

  • Must have five (5) years of health care financial or accounting experience.

 

Equivalent Education and/or Experience

  • May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for both the education and the experience requirements.

 

Skills or Special Abilities

  • Must demonstrate proficiency in the operation of a PC, and the use of spreadsheet and word processing, and financial database management software.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with all levels of management.

 

Responsibilities

             

Accountant Specialist

  • Provides accounting support and assistance with the development, implementation and maintenance of hospital and departmental budgets.
  • Accurately enters and reviews information being processed in Parkland’s accounting systems. Performs reconciliations of systems and reports as needed.
  • Develops and distributes required and standardized reports reflecting budget performance. Researches and answers any questions regarding the information contained in distributed reports.
  • Provides technical assistance, acting as internal consultant to Parkland departments, and maintains positive working relationships with management, departments, and employees to ensure efficient and timely resolution of accounting problems, and budget and performance reporting issues.
  • Produces and distributes accurate monthly management, ad hoc reports, and special projects as requested, to provide management with the financial information needed to monitor both department and hospital activities.
  • Documents and revises Budget and Performance Reporting directives and procedures to facilitate efficient and effective work processes. Identifies and analyzes ways to improve work processes, job design and customer satisfaction and implements appropriate changes that support the overall goals of the department and Parkland.

  • Support strategies that meet clinical, quality and network improvement goals.
  • Promote the use of Health Information Technology to support and monitor the effectiveness of health and social interventions and make data-driven recommendations as needed.
  • For staff in clinical roles, foster collaborative relationships with members and/or providers to promote and support evidence-based practices and care coordination.

Job Accountabilities

  1. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
