Medical
By participating in the Parkland Employee Health Plan, you can take advantage of our top-notch medical facilities and staff, as well as our innovative approach to quality care. The Employee Health Plan is available to full-time and part-time with benefits employees immediately upon hire.
Parkland Employee Health Plan (PEHP) with 3 levels of coverage. This plan allows you to choose a provider from the Parkland network and the Aetna Choice POS II network, or go out of network for your health care services, giving you 3 tiers, or levels of coverage.
Tier 1. Use Parkland or UTSW/Aston providers to receive the highest level of benefits and pay the lowest copay. You pay a $10 copay for office visits to a primary care physician (PCP), a $50 copay for specialist care office visits, a $50 copay for outpatient surgery at Parkland facilities or an emergency room visit, and $100 copay for hospitalization at Parkland. There is no copay for lab and X-ray service.
Tier 2. Go to a Tier 2 provider in the Aetna Choice POS II network for a Tier 2 benefit. You pay a $30 copay for office visits to a PCP, $50 copay for a specialist care office visits, a $100 copay for an emergency room visit, and 30% coinsurance with $250 per person and $750 per family deductible for most other services, including outpatient surgery and a hospital admission. There is no copay for lab and X-ray services.
Tier 3. See any provider outside of Tier 1 or Tier 2 networks, and receive the out-of-network Tier 3 benefit. After you have met a $2,000 deductible ($12,000 per family), the plan pays 60% of reasonable and customary charges on covered expenses. You pay the balance. The plan pays 100% of covered expenses after you reach the plan's maximum out-of-pocket expense ($10,000 per person or $25,000 per family).
Opt out of coverage if you have other group medical coverage. Parkland will pay full-time and part-time with benefits employees a credit of up to $1,200 per year to opt out of, or decline, medical coverage. You must provide proof of other coverage to receive the credit.
Pharmacy
If you enroll in the PEHP, the type of provider that writes your prescription will determine where you can fill your prescription. You have the convenience of going to a specified Parkland onsite pharmacy or a retail pharmacy in the Aetna network. For medications that you take on an ongoing basis, you may use the Aetna mail-order service to fill your prescription.
Amount You Pay For Prescription Drugs
Tier 1. Specified Parkland Onsite Pharmacies. For a 30-day supply you pay, $10 formulary (generic and brand-name), $25 approved non-formulary, and $45 unapproved non-formulary. On Mail Order (for a 90-day supply, you pay) covered if using Aetna's mail-order service

Tier 3. Out-of-Network. Covered as Tier 2 benefit if using Aetna's pharmacy network to fill prescriptions, otherwise covered at 60%/40%. On Mail Order (for a 90-day supply, you pay) Covered if using Aetna's mail-order service.
Dental
Dental benefits are available to full-time and part-time with benefits employees on the first day of the month following your date of hire (or your hire date if hired on the 1st). You may cover yourself and eligible family members, as defined by the plan.
You can choose between two plans:
Dental Health Maintenance Organization (DHMO) provides services only through DHMO network dentists. There are no deductibles, no plan maximums and no claims to file.
Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) gives you the freedom to see any dentist but receive a greater benefit if you use a network provider. With this plan:
You pay a $50 deductible per person ($150 per family) before theplan begins covering services.
The plan covers $2,000 in services per participant each year.
You file claims when you see a network dentist.
Both plans cover preventive, basic, major and orthodontia (limited to dependent children under age of 19 with a 24-month waiting period in the PPO). There is a 12 month waiting period for major services in the PPO.
Life Insurance
Parkland offers two types of life insurance coverage—basic after 6 months of service and supplemental after 3 months of service.
Basic Coverage—After six months of service you will be covered by Basic Life Insurance fully paid by Parkland.
- Full-time Employees: Benefit is equal to one and a half times your annual salary
- Part-time with Benefits Employees: Benefit is equal to 1/2 your annual salary
Minimum benefit is $20,000; maximum benefit is $1 million.
Supplemental Life Insurance Paid by You—If you want additional life insurance, Parkland offers a Supplemental Life Insurance program effective after 90 days of service.
You pay the full amount
Coverage amount for you is up to five 1/2 times your annual salary ($500,00 maximum). For your spouse it’s up to the lesser of $100,000 or 50% of your coverage. For your dependent children it’s $5,000, $10,000, $15,000 or $20,000 per child.
Evidence of insurability is required on amounts over two times salary for you and $30,000 for your spouse.
You can continue this coverage if you leave Parkland.
Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance
If you want additional protection above and beyond life insurance coverage, you can buy AD&D insurance effective after 90 days of service. This coverage, available to full-time and part-time with benefits employees, pays a benefit if you die or are injured in an accident. The amount of the benefit depends upon the extent of the injury. You pay the full cost of this benefit with after-tax payroll deductions.
You can buy two levels of coverage—employee only or employee plus family coverage. Either plan will cover you from $20,000 to $500,000. If you choose to cover your family the amount of coverage on your spouse or children will be a percentage of your coverage.
Disability Benefits
After 90 days of service the Parkland disability plans offer income protection and security for you and your family if an extended illness or injury should keep you from working.
You may choose from these plans, with these plans you pay the difference in cost between the Core Plan benefit and wating period, and/or the addiitional benefit amount and shorter waiting period:
The Core Plan pays 50% of your bi-weekly earnings after you are unable to work for 42 calendar days due to a covered illness or injury.
The Buy-Down Plan allows you to decrease your disability waiting period period from 42 to 14 days.
The Buy-Up Plan allows you to increase your disability benefits to 60% of your pay. You pay the additional 10% of coverage and Parkland pays for the core benefits of 50% of pay.
Maternity leave is covered under the disability program as long as you meet the plan’s definition of disability.
Retirement Programs
Working at Parkland gives you the opportunity to participate in a unique retirement benefits program. Because Parkland is a governmental entity, certain additional retirement benefits are available only to Parkland employees in the Dallas area.
As a full-time employee you can save for retirement from your date of hire in two ways—the Retirement Income Plan and the Supplemental Retirement Plan.
Retirement Income Plan
This plan, which is intended as a replacement for Social Security, offers a monthly benefit at retirement.
You pay 4.5% of your pay to the plan, which is 1.7% less than you would pay for Social Security.
Parkland pays the rest to provide you with a monthly benefit at retirement based on your years of service and final pay.
You vest or gain ownership in this benefit after five years of service at Parkland. You always own your 4.5% contribution.

Supplemental Retirement Plan
You can contribute up to 75% of base pay or the maximum contribution as defined by the IRS on a combined before-tax or after-tax basis. After one year of service Parkland contributes as much as your do to your account, up to 6% of your pay. You vest in the matching contribution based on a 6-year grade schedule. You always own the contributions that you make.
Special Note for Part-time Employees
Upon employment you automatically begin contributing 7.5% of your pay to a special part-time retirement contributions account. Parkland does not match your part-time contributions. However, Parkland will match any amounts (up to 6% of pay) that you contribute to the Supplemental Retirement plan above 7.5%.
Parkland maximizes your savings opportunities in the Supplemental Retirement Plan by giving you the opportunity to make additional before-tax contributions through a special Section 457 Contribution Account. This contribution enables you to save more on a before-tax basis than the traditional savings plan.
Flexible Spending Accounts
With this program you can set aside before-tax dollars to cover certain types of healthcare and dependent care expenses. The advantage of this benefit is that you save the taxes on the money that you set aside. All monies deposited in these accounts must be used by year-end.
Healthcare Spending Account. Deposit up to $5,000 per year into an account through before-tax payroll deductions. Then as eligible healthcare expenses are incurred, you are reimbursed from the account with pre-tax dollars. Eligible expenses would be those not reimbursed by a benefit program such as copays, deductibles, or prescription costs.
Dependent Care Spending Account. Deposit up to $4,000 per year into an account through before-tax payroll deductions. Then as eligible dependent care expenses (such as day care) are incurred while you or your spouse work, you are reimbursed from the account with before-tax dollars.
Paid Time Off (PTO)
We recognize the need to balance your career and personal time, thus our Paid Time Off benefit addresses this value added benefit. You can earn PTO for every hour you work using an hourly accural rate based on your years of seniority and employment status. New hires are given access to up to 24 hours of PTO for use in their first 90 days of continuous employment upon the completion of required documentation at new hire orientation. Full Time and Part Time New Hires earn 6.77 hours per bi-weekly pay period of PTO, while Weekend Option new hires earn 2.71 hours of PTO per bi-weekly pay period.
